A Place Where You Belong
Church doesn't have to be boring. What you get out of the whole Church experience is what you put into it. Like anything else in life. Sometimes you have to visit different types of Churches before you find one that fits. Big, small, close, professional, young or old - although every church has a mix of people each has its own style. Some will fit your lifestyle and needs better than others.
Attending Church is somewhat like going to the gym. Find one you like for whatever reason - the equipment, the people, the proximity to work or home. Then, there are some days you really enjoy going, and other days you drag yourself there. And on the days you drag to the gym you almost always feel better once you've worked out. Skip a week and one week turns into two and then a month and before you know it half a year goes by and you feel lousy. We all know what happens to people who don't exercise on a regular basis. Exercise needs to be a habit and so does attending church.
You are not just some cosmic result of chance. God created you. God wants a personal relationship with you 24/7. But church is where you learn about God and benefit from being with like-minded people. Yes, you can be a Christian without attending church, but, you will not receive all the benefits of being a child of God.
Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life identifies the benefits of being with other Christians. Every child needs a family. A church family:
The church can do a lot for you - and you can do a lot for the church. The Christian community needs you! If you are a believer you need to let your part function in the Body. Attending church is a great start. Don't stop there, get involved and become a member. Not just a member of the church, but, a member of Christ's family committed to other believers.
In Christ, we who are many form one body and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:5
